  75.      _s_o_u_n_d_e_d_i_t_o_r requires an SGI system with an Iris Audio Processor in order
  76.      to audition sounds.  The program will run on systems with no audio
  77.      hardware, but the record and play functions will be disabled.

  81.      Soundfiles in formats other than AIFF or AIFF-C must be converted before
  82.      they may be used within the current version of _s_o_u_n_d_e_d_i_t_o_r. Use _s_f_c_o_n_v_e_r_t
  83.      or _s_o_u_n_d_f_i_l_e_r to accomplish the conversion.

  85.      _s_o_u_n_d_e_d_i_t_o_r saves all files in uncompressed AIFF format.  Mono, stereo or
  86.      4-channel files are currently supported.  Sample bit widths may be 8, 16
  87.      or 24 bits.

  89.      _s_o_u_n_d_e_d_i_t_o_r creates temporary files during editing in a directory
  90.      specified by the environment variable TMPDIR.  Soundfiles can become
  91.      quite large and it may be necessary to set TMPDIR to a directory on a
  92.      disk drive with enough free space.  For example, a stereo soundfile
  93.      recorded at 44.1kHz will require approximately 10 megabytes of disk space
  94.      per minute of recording.

  96.      _s_o_u_n_d_e_d_i_t_o_r works in conjunction with _a_p_a_n_e_l, the Audio Control Panel,
  97.      where input source and levels may be set.
